What does a merchant scan tell you?
What is ScamWiz?
ScamWiz is a merchant research tool for people and their personal AI agents. It reads public merchant pages and applies published deterministic rules to produce cited findings and experimental evidence-based scores. Reports show sources, a timestamp, and coverage.
Can ScamWiz tell whether a merchant is legitimate?
Identity and independent reputation remain unverified. It does not certify legitimacy or safety. A policy or a high experimental score is not proof that a merchant is trustworthy.
What does the URL scanner check?
The scanner retrieves an HTTPS page and up to six linked policy pages. It looks for contact information, returns, shipping, cancellation and privacy disclosures, and structured product data. Fifteen published checks produce cited findings and coverage-aware experimental scores. No model or external reputation service is called.
Can my agent use the results?
Yes. POST a merchant URL as JSON to /api/merchant. The response includes evidence, coverage, limitations, and recommendations to request owner confirmation before sharing personal data or purchasing. No purchase or checkout is performed.
Does a missing policy mean a website is unsafe?
No. Missing evidence means the scanner did not observe it in the retrieved static HTML. Content may exist on another page or require JavaScript. Missing information is reported as unknown, not proof of fraud.
